Sebaceous Gland Ablation (SGA)
Acne is caused when sebaceous glands (you have over 1,200 sebaceous glands per cm of skin) go into overdrive and epidermal cells form a plug in the pore, which becomes a pimple. Only a very small number of sebaceous glands are affected by acne and breakout, even in the most severe cases of acne. SGA is used to treat only those sebaceous glands affected by the acne.
Sebaceous Gland Ablation is a safe, scar free treatment that offers acne affected teenagers and adults a non-drug, permanent solution for their acne. We are one of the very few clinics in Sydney to offer SGA treatments.
Sebaceous Gland Ablation (SGA) uses a an electric current of energy (the same kind used in electrolysis) to gradually shrink those rogue sebaceous glands and stop them from malfunctioning. Once the sebaceous gland is “ablated” (a medical term used to describe tissue destruction through the use of heat), it can no longer break out. Only active acne can be treated as we use the inflamed breakout as a guide to finding the affected sebaceous glands.
SGA can be performed on any active acne lesion, from a lesion as small as a blackhead to lesions as large as cysts. Multiple treatments are generally required to ablate each sebaceous gland (between two and five treatments). Depending on the number of breakout affected sebaceous glands you have, it can take a number of treatments before you become permanently breakout free.
Here at Skin Body Health we believe it is also of upmost importance to get to the root cause of your acne so we can design a personalised program to not only clear your active breakouts but prevent future acne from reoccurring. Some of these treatments may include clinical peels, LED Light Therapy, Photo-rejuvenation and a comprehensive home care routine.
Once your acne has cleared you may be left with some scarring. We can offer you the latest innovative acne scarring treatments. Read more about our acne scarring treatments here.
